CCE in Classes VI, VII, VIII as well

13 Sep

CCE
CCE in Middle Classes

CCE should be implemented in classes VI, VII and VIII as well says CBSE, which many schools have adopted. The CCE takes into account both the scholastic and non-scholastic aspects and students are given grades instead of marks.

The CBSE, meanwhile, is also coming up with a teacher’s manual. Usha Ram, principal of Laxman Public School, Haus Khas, said, “The CBSE will send it to all schools after implementing the suggestions. It (CCE implementation in classes VI, VII and VIII) will take time, but will happen ultimately.”

She added: “We used to have grades till Class VIII in our school, now only the nomenclature has changed.” New terms like “Formative Assessment” and ‘Summative Assessment”, that were being used in classes IX and X will now apply to middle classes as well.

“Last year when the scheme was introduced in Class IX, we introduced the same in Class VIII as well so that students get to know what they are going to face in Class IX. This year, the school has extended it to include classes VI and VII as well” says Apeejay School.

SOE’s Initiative for Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) Training

The SOE’s (training division) has taken initiative for producing experts on CCE and introducing a diploma programme on CCE for the first time in the country to make an effort to translate the lofty goal of all round development of students into practice by an effective implementation of CCE in schools. Knowledge and training of CCE is a current need for all educational stakeholders especially for educators who have the responsibility of reforming teaching and learning process and introducing innovations on regular basis.

The effort of SOE to provide a leadership and pioneering training in form of diploma programme for promoting the effective implementation of CCE is a major breakthrough that attempts to elevate the status of the schools in assessing the attainment levels of the students and in diagnosing the improvement needs in teaching-learning process. Gaining an expertise on CCE would help in arriving at basic principles to guide teaching and learning practices in our schools. It is important for educators to know how the assessment of the child’s learning be done in a whole range of situations and environments both in and out of the classroom. The assessment process needs to be part of the way of providing information and feedback on the extent to which the school and teachers have been successful in realizing the expected outcomes of education.

SOE’s Initiative for School Leadership (SL) Training

SOE Training Division has taken an initiative by introducing a diploma programme on School Leadership for aspiring and practicing Principals. It is a training programme that aims to prepare leaders in education. The Diploma Programme in School Leadership is India’s first transformative diploma programme that will inculcate leadership skills in school Principals so that they can exhibit excellent performance in managing and leading a school. The leadership qualities of principals will help in developing whole school processes and would help schools to become a 21st century model schools where innovations are made by principals and teachers and students undergo into a meaningful learning experiences. This training programme will deal with a number of professional difficulties experienced by school principals in leading a school and at the same time, it will make the trainees familiar with various problem-solving strategies and tools. The diploma programme is meant for the professional development of school principals. It will transform principals into successful leaders and mentors.

SOEs Initiative for Training on Multiple Intelligences and Blooms Taxonomy

SOE Training Division has launched a diploma programme on Multiple Intelligences in classroom and Blooms Taxonomy with an aim to prepare professionals that can successfully apply multiple intelligences and blooms taxonomy in schools for creating active learning environment. SOE believes that for creating active learning environment in classroom, planning and progamme must achieve two fundamental aims: it must nurture our students’ thinking skills and simultaneously engage them through their preferred learning styles. Many educators in schools are not aware of the use of multiple intelligences and blooms taxonomy for effective learning and many of them who are aware do not know how to apply it for effective teaching-learning process. The diploma course on MI and BT will expose the trainees to the theoretical framework, activities, tools and techniques on multiple intelligence and blooms taxonomy. The training program is effective enough to train teachers in successfully introducing eight different ways for children to be smart in learning through hands on activities . The diploma course will train the teachers in integrating multiple intelligences and blooms taxonomy in classroom, using grid matrix for planning curriculum based on MI and BT, assessing students’ learning on the basis of MI and BT and using a range of thinking tools for different classroom activities.

SOE believes that for creating active learning environment in classroom, planning and progamme must achieve two fundamental aims:

1. It must nurture our students’ thinking skills and
2. simultaneously engage them through their preferred learning styles.

CBSE CCE System in Classes VI, VII and VIII

12 Sep

CCE in Middle School

The Board has already recommended that the students should not carry school bags and there should be no homework up to Classes I & II. It has also recommended that a two year profile of the students be maintained for students of Classes I & II and the three year profile be maintained for Classes III-V.

The assessment will cover both scholastic and co-scholastic aspects and will be carried out in schools over the two terms, Term 1 and Term 2 by means of formative and summative assessments using a variety of tests and assignments. For purpose of teaching and assessment, the syllabus for different subjects may be bifurcated for the two terms.

There will be four Formative Assessments each of with a weighting of 10% each. There are two Summative Assessments (SA1 and SA2) with a weighting of 30% each.

  • First Term : FA1(10%) + FA2 (10%) + SA1 (30%) = 50%
  • Second Term : FA3 (10%) + FA4(10%) + SA2 (30%) = 50%

Formative Assessment can be carried through using multiple modes of assessment such as assignments, quizzes, debates, Group discussions, Projects and only one pen and paper test. It may be clearly communicated to all teachers teaching various subjects that all Projects and assignments must be done as group activities within the class and school time only. Each subject must have only one paper pencil test under Formative Assessment. The other modes of assessment must be part of classroom interactive activities.

The Summative assessment  is a written, end of the term examination which may consist of objective type, short answer and long answer questions.

For making evaluation comprehensive, both scholastic and co-scholastic aspects should be given importance. Co-scholastic areas will consist of Life-Skills, Attitudes and Values, Co-scholastic Activities and Health and Physical Education.
